Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series

Tonight (Tuesday, August 15th) is week 6 of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, which will highlight up-and-coming talent, as well as some former UFC fighters looking for a second crack at the big time. Winners aren’t guaranteed a UFC contract, so impressive performances matter a lot. Bloody Elbow is your place to discuss this five-fight event at The Ultimate Fighter gym in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main event this evening are middleweights Charles Byrd and Randall Wallace. If Byrd sounds familiar to you, that’s because he fought in the first Contender Series card, winning by arm-triangle choke. Dana White didn’t sign him to a UFC contract, but did opt to bring him back to Contender Series to prove himself once more.

Once again, there are no ex-UFC competitors on the card, but we finally have women’s MMA fighters. Strawweights Tiffany Masters and Jamie Colleen open up the night’s broadcast.

As is the case for the whole of this eight-week run, Dana White’s Contender Series streams live on UFC Fight Pass, starting at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. If you want SnoopCast commentary, click here. For a complete preview of tonight’s show, check out Dayne Fox’s preview.

Here’s tonight’s lineup:

Charles Byrd def. Randall Wallace via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:03 of round 2 – Middleweight

Grant Dawson def. Adrian Diaz via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:15 of round 2 – Featherweight

Cameron Olson def. Karl Reed via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) – Light Heavyweight

Jamie Alvarez def. Martin Day via unanimous decision (28-27, 29-28, 29-27) – Flyweight

Jamie Colleen def. Tiffany Masters via submission (armbar) at 4:43 of round 3 – Women’s Strawweight

At the conclusion of each show it is expected there will be an announcement as to which fighters UFC President Dana White has decided to bring into the UFC.

The UFC will alternate commentary teams of Dan Hellie (play-by-play) and former UFC veteran Yves Edwards (color) with Dan Fitzgerald (play-by-play) and current UFC lightweight Paul Felder (color). Former Invicta sideline reporter and current UFC on FOX sideline reporter Laura Sanko will be on sideline duty as well.

Update (7/10): MMA Today has learned that fighters will not be wearing Reebok gear as UFC fighters are contractually obliged to do, but instead will exclusively be wearing gear as part of another apparel deal. “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” has paired with “Gruntstyle LLC.” Just like the Reebok deal, no sponsors will be allowed on the fighters’ shorts/shirts and no fight banners will be allowed either. In addition to the apparel deal, MMA Today has learned that an expected crowd of only 100 people is expected to be on hand tomorrow. The fights are closed to the public and fighters’ families and friends are the only ones allowed into the TUF Gym premises. Finally, MMA Today has learned that the pacing for “DWTNCS” is expected to be fast and furious with the main event beginning no later than 9:45pm EST. Fights are expected to go back to back with no extensive breaks in the action.

Update (8/1): The UFC announced on their broadcast that 8/29 would indeed be the final episode of the Contender Series for the time being, and no additional cards would be scheduled right away.
